After Nevadans for Reproductive Freedom submitted more than 200,000 signatures from all 17 Nevada counties, the Nevada Secretary of State certified the measure to appear on the 2024 ballot
Reno, NV – Today, the Nevada Secretary of State officially certified a constitutional amendment to protect abortion rights for the November 2024 ballot. Last month, Nevadans for Reproductive Freedom turned in more than 200,000 voter signatures from all 17 counties in Nevada, demonstrating broad support for the amendment across the state and political spectrum.
Nevadans strongly believe abortion should be legal. Ongoing attacks on abortion rights and reproductive health care – including IVF and contraception – nationally and in states across the country underscores the urgency of passing permanent state constitutional protections to keep politicians out of Nevadans’ personal medical decisions.
Lindsey Harmon, President of Nevadans for Reproductive Freedom, issued the following statement:
“Today, the Nevada Secretary of State certified that Nevadans for Reproductive Freedom’s constitutional amendment protecting abortion rights will appear on the ballot this November. The support this initiative has received from Nevadans throughout the signature collection process shows what we’ve known to be true: Nevadans believe that healthcare decisions about abortion are best left to women, their doctors, and those they love and trust – not politicians.
Nevadans strongly believe that abortion should be legal. But at every turn, anti-abortion activists have attempted to prevent Nevadans from making their voices heard with pointless lawsuits and misinformation.
Today, we are thrilled that Nevadans will be able to make their voices heard and stand up for the right to make their own healthcare decisions in the face of government interference. In an election year with critical implications for abortion and reproductive health care, our campaign, coalition partners, and supporters will be out in communities across the state, talking to neighbors, family, and friends about turning out to vote in support of reproductive rights this fall.”

Background on Abortion Protections in Nevada:
In Nevada, a 1990 voter referendum codified the protections for abortion as outlined by Roe v. Wade into state law. However, statutory protections do not mean the right is codified in the state constitution
The petition initiative to enshrine protections for abortion into the Nevada constitution seeks to build upon and improve existing statutory protections while taking into account the changing abortion access national landscape after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in its decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization in the summer of 2022

Reno, NV – Hoy, el Secretario de Estado de Nevada dio su aprobación para que la enmienda constitucional para proteger el derecho al aborto aparezca en la boleta electoral de noviembre de 2024. El mes pasado, Nevadans for Reproductive Freedom entregó más de 200 mil firmas de votantes de 17 condados del estado, lo que demuestra que existe un gran apoyo a la enmienda en todo el estado.
Los nevadenses creen firmemente que el aborto debe ser legal. Los ataques constantes a nivel nacional y en los estados sobre el derecho al aborto y a la atención reproductiva -incluyendo la Fecundación in Vitro y anticoncepción- demuestran la importancia de aprobar protecciones constitucionales permanentes para que políticos no puedan influir en decisiones personales de cuidado médico.

“Hoy, el Secretario de Estado de Nevada certificó y dio su aprobacion para que la iniciativa para proteger el derecho al aborto impulsada por Nevadans for Reproductive Freedom aparezca en la boleta electoral de este noviembre. El apoyo que ha recibido esta propuesta de parte de los nevadenses durante todo el proceso de recolección de firmas, demuestra con certeza que tenemos el apoyo para proteger el derecho al aborto: los nevadenses consideran que las decisiones de atención médica debe ser personal, quedar en manos de las mujeres, sus doctores y sus seres queridos, sin intervención política.
Los nevadenses realmente consideran que el aborto debe ser legal. Aunque los activistas antiaborto han intentado callar los deseos de los nevadenses a través campañas sin fundamentos y desinformadas.
Hoy, nos llena de emoción que los nevadenses podrán levantar su voz y defender su derecho a tomar sus propias decisiones sobre la atención médica sin la interferencia del gobierno. En un año electoral con consecuencias críticas para el aborto y la atención de la salud reproductiva, los miembros de nuestra coalición llegarán a todas nuestras comunidades en el estado, hablando con vecinos, familiares y amigos sobre la urgencia de salir a votar en pro de los derechos reproductivos.

Antecedente sobre protección del aborto en Nevada:
En Nevada, un referéndum de 1990 permitió codificar en la ley estatal las protecciones del aborto como lo indicaba Roe v. Wade. Sin embargo, estas protecciones legales no significan que el derecho esté codificado en la constitución estatal.
La petición para consolidar las protecciones del aborto en la Constitución de Nevada busca desarrollar y mejorar las protecciones legales existentes, teniendo en cuenta el panorama nacional del acceso al aborto después de que la Corte Suprema revocara Roe v. Wade en su decisión en Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization en el verano de 2022

We are a coalition of progressive organizations and citizens who believe that in the wake of the overturning of Roe v. Wade in the summer of 2022, Nevadans must take the final step of cementing into the state’s constitution the right to abortion.
