Effort aimed at educating voters on candidate’s position on Question 6, the amendment to permanently protect abortion rights
Reno, NV – Today, Nevadans for Reproductive Freedom, the coalition behind the Yes on Question 6 campaign to permanently protect abortion rights in the Nevada Constitution, released a voter guide with Nevada candidates’ positions on the amendment.
As part of Nevadans for Reproductive Freedom’s voter education efforts, the campaign sent a survey asking for candidates’ positions on the amendment to every Nevada candidate who will appear on the 2024 ballot.
“When it comes to something as important to voters as protecting abortion rights, too many politicians want to have it both ways,” said Tova Yampolsky, campaign manager with Nevadans for Reproductive Freedom. “Voters deserve to know where their candidates stand on Question 6. This ballot guide makes it perfectly clear who supports keeping politicians out of our private medical decisions, and who doesn’t.”

Background on abortion protections in Nevada:
A 1990 voter referendum codified the protections for abortion as outlined by Roe v. Wade into state law. However, this statute does not mean the right is permanently protected in the state constitution, and the existing statutory provisions are increasingly out of date.
The petition initiative to enshrine abortion rights into the Nevada constitution seeks to build upon and improve existing protections while taking into account the changing abortion rights national landscape after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022.

DE LOS CANDIDATOS SOBRE DERECHOS AL ABORTO
Esta iniciativa permite a los votantes conocer las opiniones de los candidatos
sobre la propuesta Yes on 6, enmienda que aparecerá en la boleta electoral para
proteger de manera permanente la libertad reproductiva en Nevada
Reno, NV – Hoy, Nevadans for Reproductive Freedom -la coalición detrás de la campaña Yes on 6 para proteger de manera permanente los derechos al aborto en la Constitución de Nevada- dio a conocer la opinión de los candidatos sobre la enmienda de libertad reproductiva que se incluirá en las elecciones de noviembre próximo.
Como parte de los esfuerzos que realiza Nevadans for Reproductive Freedom para informar a los votantes sobre sus derechos reproductivos como el aborto, la coalición envió una encuesta a cada uno de los candidatos que aparecerán en la boleta electoral de 2024 para conocer su posicionamiento sobre esta iniciativa.
“Cuando estamos frente algo tan importante para los votantes como proteger los derechos al aborto, muchos políticos tienen opiniones encontradas con respecto a este tema,” dijo Tova Yampolsky, jefa de campaña de Nevadans for Reproductive Freedom. “Los votantes merecen conocer cuál es la opinión de los candidatos sobre la Pregunta 6 (Yes on 6) y las posturas que hoy damos a conocer son una muestra clara de quienes respaldan dejar fuera a los políticos de nuestras decisiones médicas personales y quienes consideran que debe tener una intervención política.”

Antecedente sobre protección del aborto en Nevada:
En Nevada, un referéndum de 1990 permitió codificar en la ley estatal las protecciones del aborto como lo indicaba Roe v. Wade. Sin embargo, estas protecciones legales no significan que el derecho esté codificado en la constitución estatal y las disposiciones existentes están cada vez más obsoletas.
La petición para consolidar las protecciones del aborto en la Constitución de Nevada busca desarrollar y mejorar las protecciones legales existentes, teniendo en cuenta el panorama nacional del acceso al aborto después de que la Corte Suprema revocara Roe v. Wade en 2022.

We are a coalition of progressive organizations and citizens who believe that in the wake of the overturning of Roe v. Wade in the summer of 2022, Nevadans must take the final step of cementing into the state’s constitution the right to abortion.
