Coalition organizations prepare to knock over 1 million doors to mobilize Nevada voters to protect reproductive rights
Reno, NV – Today, Nevadans for Reproductive Freedom unveils a broad coalition of partner organizations united to mobilize voters in support of abortion rights. The coalition includes organizations representing Nevada’s Latino, Black, Indigenous, Asian and Pacific Islander, communities; reproductive rights organizations; healthcare advocacy organizations; and many more that reflect Nevada’s diverse communities and interests.
On June 28th, the Nevada Secretary of State officially certified a constitutional amendment to protect abortion rights for the November 2024 ballot. Nevadans strongly believe abortion should be legal. The coalition’s partner organizations plan to contact over one million voters across Nevada to ensure that voters who believe decisions about abortion should stay between women and their doctors turn out to make their voices heard this fall.
“Women, including Latinas, are bringing Nevada back and want our government to provide us with more opportunities, freedoms and rights, not strip them away," said Melissa Morales, President and Founder of Somos Votantes and Somos PAC. "While incredibly dangerous state abortion bans continue to be put in place by anti-abortion politicians across the country, it is crucial we protect Nevadans' rights. Latinas remain the largest group of women of color in the nation disproportionately impacted by such bans, and passing this constitutional amendment is an important step in ensuring we protect the lives of women and doctors in the Silver State. This is why Somos Votantes is committed to knocking on 1 million doors to encourage hard working Nevadans to vote yes to this year's amendment protecting a woman's right to choose and to support candidates committed to protecting our rights. What a woman chooses to do with her body is a personal decision between themselves and their doctor, not politicians."

"An overwhelming 79% of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander adults support abortion access, and 75% want government action to guarantee that access nationwide. We stand by the right for people to choose what to do with their own bodies and believe everyone should have access to safe reproductive care without restriction."

For too long, underserved communities—particularly Latine, Black, Indigenous, and low-income individuals—have faced systemic barriers to accessing reproductive healthcare. This initiative is about creating a Nevada where everyone has the right to safe, affordable, and accessible reproductive healthcare.”

NEVADANS FOR REPRODUCTIVE FREEDOM DA A CONOCER A LA AMPLIA COALICIÓN
APOYANDO LA PREGUNTA PARA PROTEGER EL DERECHO AL ABORTO, QUE APARECERÁ EN LA BOLETA ELECTORAL DE NEVADA ESTE NOVIEMBRE
Miembros de esta coalición se están preparando para llegar a más de un millón de puertas de votantes de Nevada para defender los derechos reproductivos
Reno, NV – Nevadans for Reproductive Freedom anuncio la coalición de organizaciones aliadas que estaran trabajando para movilizar a votantes en Nevada a favor de la iniciativa que busca resguardar el derecho al aborto. Esta coalición incluye organizaciones de la comunidad latina, afroamericana, nativos americanos, asiática e isleños del pacifio; así como organizaciones que defienden los derechos reproductivos, de salud, y otros grupos que reflejan la diversidad de los nevadenses.
El 28 de junio, el Secretario de Estado de Nevada dio su aprobación para que la enmienda constitucional para proteger el derecho al aborto aparezca en la boleta electoral de noviembre de 2024. Los nevadenses creen firmemente que el aborto debe ser legal y por ello las organizaciones aliadas esperan llegar a más de un millón de votantes a través de todo el estado para asegurar que la voz de quienes consideran que la decision sobre el aborto debe tomarse entre una mujer y sus médico.
“Las mujeres, incluyendo a las latinas, están acaparando en Nevada y quieren que su gobierno les brinde más oportunidades, libertades y derechos, no que las quite”, dijo Melissa Morales, presidenta y fundadora de Somos Votantes y Somos PAC. “Es crucial que protejamos los derechos de los nevadenses, ya que continúan las peligrosas prohibiciones en otros estados impulsadas por políticos antiaborto. Las latinas siguen siendo el grupo más grande de mujeres de color en el país que se ven mayormente afectadas por estas prohibiciones, por lo que aprobar que se incluya la propuesta en la boleta electora es un paso importante para garantizar que se proteja a la mujer y a los doctores en el estado. Es por esto que Somos Votantes se ha comprometido a tocar un millón de puertas para alentar a los nevadenses a votar a favor de esta iniciativa y proteger el derecho de las mujeres a elegir sobre su propia salud reproductiva, al igual que respaldar a los demócratas comprometidos con este tema. Lo que una mujer elija hacer con su cuerpo es una decisión personal que sólo es entre ella y su médico, no de ningún político.”

Por mucho tiempo, las comunidades vulnerables, en particular las latinas, afroamericanas, indígenas y de bajos ingresos, han enfrentado barreras sistemáticas para tener acceso a la atención médica reproductiva y esta iniciativa asegura que Nevada sea un espacio donde todo mundo tenga derecho a una atención médica reproductiva segura, a un costo asequible.

Nevadans For Reproductive Freedom is a campaign united to enshrine the right to abortion into the Nevada constitution. We are a coalition of progressive organizations and citizens who believe that in the wake of the overturning of Roe v. Wade in the summer of 2022, Nevadans must take the final step of cementing into the state’s constitution the right to abortion.
